Newsroom progress

Shawn and the web team gave a brief update on the progress on the Newsroom project. Things are starting to take shape, but are still in the very early stages. Further updates will be coming soon in the new year.

Year-in-Review page update

We discussed the new requested page that will serve as a promotional piece for the school to highlight topics that were of importance over the last year or so.

The group has decided to go with publichealth.wvu.edu/highlights as the URL for this new page. The page template and document setup will be created in a way that will make the solution reusable. It was also pointed out that when the Newsroom update launches, it will alleviate the complexity around how content from various areas of the website can be easily combined on a page, as is the case with this “highlights” page.

Nikky emphasized the new page type will be good for the school from a messaging standpoint. She wanted to discuss future iterations on the page, and what the process will be like for creating these. As the requirements for setting up such pages are a little more complex, the school will need to request future copies of the page.

Later in the meeting, a timeline for the completion of the “Highlights” page was established, with the goal of having the page ready by the end of next week.

Redesigns to program pages

We next discussed the school’s program pages and how they can potentially be improved, design-wise. Shawn says that the School of Medicine program page changes have been received really well.

 Shawn thinks we can begin looking to start a redesign project on these pages in January or February of the new year. One of the first steps to this initiative is for Nikky, Jess, and Bill to review the content that exists on these pages and begin thinking about more granular approaches to the content that they convey. This will include thinking about what content should live on the program pages themselves, and thinking about what could be moved to subpages. Shawn wants to think about this as not necessarily changing the content itself, but to redistribute the content in a way that allows for more details to become discoverable.

Progress on Tutor Connection resource

Since our last meeting, Jessica has set up the “Tutor Connection” page and Wufoo form under the “Student Resources” section of the site. We discussed how this new page should promoted on the “Student Resources” page, and Jason shared a quick design concept he had developed following the initial discussion for this page in the October meeting. Nikky and Jessica approved of this proposed design change, and Jason will work to incorporate this change into the resources page.

Commencement

Nikky asked the group if anything needed to be done on their end in regards to the December commencement proceedings. Typically, Health Sciences doesn’t promote the December commencement on the website. Shawn will reach out if anything should happen to change in regards to that.

Jessica’s birthday

Finally, it was pointed out that today is Jessica’s birthday. Happy birthday, Jessica!
