5/2/19 Meeting

Notes

What We Discussed

  • Cabin - We showed you Cabin! Please take a look at the whole thing, let us know if you feel like something is missing! We also ended up sharing that you get to to Umbraco much easier than you thought (* publichealth.hsc.wvu.edu/umbraco *!!), which made us think about the fact that it is not a link in Cabin yet (which is a good idea!).
  • MHA Go Link - We discussed this again this meeting, and Dave said that he cannot make it an active Go Link until he has a live URL that needs shortened. We discussed publishing the page with the appropriate URL but hiding it from navigation so we could at least obtain the URL. We agreed to not do so and hold off as the program we're obtaining it for has not officially been approved yet. Once it is, Kim will let Dave know and he will obtain the URL.
  • News - Kim mentioned that she'd like to have something fancier like pull quotes available in her news stories. We explained that there actually is a blockquote style in SOLE News. We used to have it in Umbraco but it was being abused. She also asked about captions for hero images, which are currently not a feature we have. We talked about the new SOLE News system in the works that will have more of the features she's looking for now.
  • OLLI - We discussed this today to see where things were. Kim said she is more than willing to move forward with us setting up an OLLI dev site using HSC Themes V2 as we suggested. But there is definitely concern as Kim has basically no contact with them and does not feel she is anything but a barrier between us and them. At the moment our hands are also tied as the process for us is to work with the communicator regarding web stuff. Kim brought up a good point - if this isn't under SPH (they seem to work WITH us, but are they responsible to us? Do they have to follow our guidelines?), why are we hosting it? Perhaps in these cases we should change how communication works? I think it would be best if we wait until we figure out this communication to create the dev environment as to avoid any confusion or conflict between any parties. We will talk with Shawn about this to get a better answer about how this and other complicated relationships like these are handled in the future.
  • Strategic Planning - Kim mentioned that in the future the Strategic Planning page is going to need looked at, as they have an infographic they'd like to integrate into the page. We let her know that based on what the explained, it would likely be about two weeks after we receive the content to get a finished product, barring any large projects or unforeseen circumstances. We all agreed that once she has met with them, we will see where we are at in our workflow and go from there.
  • Meta Data & SEO - Kim was looking to follow up about some concerns we've had in the past about things like keywords and descriptions in Umbraco. She wanted to know if there was anything she could do regarding meta data to better serve her website. We explained that the way google handles these has shifted (and continues to constantly shift), but that the route we recommend right now would be to focus on in-text keyword sprinkling and contextually helpful in-content linking (like you're already doing in News). We also suggested that we can take a look at your analytics and see what people are searching for.
  • Slack - Kim mentioned that she hasn't been invited to join our club yet :) . We let her know that Shawn is the only one who has the ability to add her, but we can check with Jimmy in the interim to see if he can get her added in sooner.
