12/13/18 Meeting

Notes

What We Discussed

  • Research Experts Database – I reviewed the corrections we’ve made since our last meeting (sub-topics now separated by semi-colons, fixed name searching specificity problems) as well as the things we unfortunately cannot fix (we can’t control the sort order of the type of page the database uses – it’s an Umbraco thing, or make it show you which topics you’ve chose already. I’m sorry L). We have a thing or two to work on now, whether with or without Peter, but it should be good to go for our next meeting.
  • Research Page – We still need to add a bar for the Research Database. It will be a duplicate of what’s on the home page, but you’ll be able to change the content to fit the Research Page better.
  • Individual Department Research Pages – Kim pointed out some really weird spacing/bulleted list issues. We are going to take care of that. J
  • Practice Based Experience Job Board – This will be identical to the Career Development Job Board in style, but will gain three additional fields – a character limited description (Kim is going to send us sample descriptions so we can get an idea of how MUCH to limit the characters), a way to link a file (such as a PDF), and a way to indicate who to contact (which in most cases will be Audra).
  • Event Page – We revisited this today. We’re going to continue doing what Kim is already doing on the page, but we will handle the design and Kim will only need to input the data. The speaker’s name and speaker’s position will be optional fields which can be populated when the event has a single speaker. There will also be an optional button to view the livestream/youtube video. We agreed to leave past speakers on the same page. They will be formatted in a more condensed list under the most recent speaker (which will be expanded). Down the road if too many of them show up, we’ll cross that bridge. We know this is a priority as Kim is continuing to keep up with the Dean’s Colloquium and could use an easier template! We’ll let you know if we can get to this sooner than our next meeting, but it should definitely be done by our next meeting.
  • Editor Issues – Kim had an editor bring up that they have not had access to the site since *August*, so we said we will look into it and let her know if/when that happened, etc. We discussed the fact that she has no access to the website’s editor list and how that would be very useful to her. We agree with her 100% and are actually in the process of revamping our editor list system and will definitely let her know when that’s in a good place. In the meantime, we’ll investigate the particular editor.
  • Double Pattern Issues – We made the connect bar the WVU Gold pattern a few months ago, but didn’t see that it made two rows back-to-back patterns (ugly and against brand) on ICRC. We discussed flip flopping some of the rows, but it ruined the hierarchy of the page. We instead agreed to just make some color changes to avoid this happening.
  • Research Repository - Kim brought this delight to our attention just so we were aware in case SPH people started causing problems about wanting integration and other stuff.
