5/14/2019 Meeting

Notes

Listing Alumni and Some Graduates

In the HVI meeting that Cassie and Dan attended on May 7th, the Section of Cardiology group expressed a need to list alumni on their website, each with a very brief bio, to aid in resident recruitment. Cassie suggested that we should find a solution for listing alumni consistently throughout the website. Tara and Aishina agreed that we can use the "Basic Directory Listing" page type for listing alumni in department and program sections, and as long as the school has an abundance of website editors, we will need to set aside time at least once a year to search through the website for listed alumni to ensure that this consistent structure is being used. This is similar to how residents are listed throughout departments and programs.

Similarly, the Rural Track Program group has expressed a need to list Rural Health graduates and where they will become residents (See the attached MS Excel spreadsheet), and we agreed that the "Basic Directory Listing" page type can be reused for this as well.

Broken RNI Links

While looking for examples of listing residents throughout the website, we found that the affiliated patient care information on the WVU Medicine website for at least two departments has been removed:

  • Department of Neurosurgery: The page that the "Learn More" button in the feature links to has been removed and the page that the "Visit the Patient Care Website" button links to has been removed.
  • Department of Neurology: The page that the "Visit the Patient Care Website" button links to has been removed.

Department of Neurosurgery

Tara mentioned that this group expressed concerns with news and social media links falling too far down the front page. While we aren't able to restructure the template, we agreed that most of the items in the "Get Started" and "Additional Resources" areas are items that already exist (or should exist) in the top navigation, therefore, these sections should be altered to highlight their goals, or, at worst, be removed.

Additionally, we found that the Medical Students page contains some odd graphics. This page also needs to be renamed to "Students". The "Neurosurgery News" link should not exist since the department's news is listed on the front page of the website.

Immunology and Medical Microbiology

Aishina is working with Evie and Lindsay to add program information to the IMMB subsite.

Professional Programs

Aishina mentioned that Cassie has a meeting with Evie and Lindsay this week and the career paths landing page is on the list of items to discuss.

Careers Section

Shawn and Dan will reach out to University Relations to find out about retrieving School of Medicine job postings from their system and list the postings along with WVU Medicine jobs on the School of Medicine website.

Summer 2019

In the previous meeting in April, Cassie mentioned focusing on updating department websites and implementing her proposed content and hierarchy updates to the main School of Medicine website over the summer.
