What We Talked About

  • Welcome Bill! - Bill Frye, a new hire, is joining us today to get a feel for what we typically do during our communicator meetings and how things work in general. Both Shawn and Sunshine wanted him to know that we are totally open to any questions, suggestions, etc. Our eyes are a little glazed over after all these years, so if Bill sees something we would be happy to listen to what he is wondering or thinking about. Shawn also mentioned that we use Cabin (this website, right here! lol) and instructed Rachel to make a note that he told her to make a note of this. So there.
  • Rethinking Bios/Profiles - Shawn discussed a suggestion from the last few meetings with Tara and she was all on board. Sunshine, however, is struggling a little with the idea as the school's people specifically lack diversity. She is thinking she can sort of open it up for people to say things, but does not have anything at the moment to use. Shawn suggested perhaps the new Dean could be the catalyst for this by sort of setting the stage and sharing his own experiences. Sunshine explained to Bill that the Dean is very in tune with Wellness and she's thinking we could work with him on this. We could do a test run with him. Sunshine thinks it's a good idea. She will talk with him about it. She mentions that their people may not really think of what they bring to the table that could actually be useful.
  • Hub - Initially the Dean came in wanting to create more initiative into wellness, which has been diverted to the intranet for now. Shawn mentioned that we will continue working on Hub (now with Bill too!) and that can help her avoid duplicative efforts and organize all that new internal content. Shawn is shooting for Early September early environments set up for Sunshine. We're basically thinking that SOD will be the first group to work in there and set some precedents.
  • Welcome Week - This years has already begun and things are obviously still different. Last year nothing really happened and this year even things are still scaled back to a degree. Those pages still exist in our school websites and we are just making sure they still have accurate links to resources.
  • Leadership - Sunshine is working on getting these all fixed up as there has been significant shifts and changes with the new Dean coming in.
  • Careers - Sunshine mentions they are struggling to get new hires, but specifically they are looking for an Oral Surgeon and cannot find anyone to fill it. She has not promoted it a lot, but is linking it to other places to provide people with more information. She expected the Dean would want something more robust, but it turns out that was not the case. Basically, she will just manually maintain the list at this point. She is however being given more information about open jobs than ever before.
  • Top Navigation - The websites top nav is at nine links right now, which is...pretty packed. The new additional of the Careers page seems to be important. Shawn suggested that we could potentially think and evaluate the idea of moving Apply Now under students like all the other schools (except Public Health). Sunshine suggested she would rather nix CE (Continuing Education) as it's not something people are really coming to the website for and she is regularly sending links out for things. Shawn suggested that we can actually check analytics and see which link is doing worse? And perhaps CE could show on the home page somewhere when it's relevant or they have new information. The page will still exist, it just will not hold space in the top nav.
