3/21/19 Meeting

Notes

What We Discussed

  • General Content Strategy – Dave kindly put together a word document that highlighted some of his observed areas of improvement for the site. He and Sunshine are going to coordinate and meet to further discuss working on wording and general content creation. It was awesome to see that some of his suggestions had already been brought up by Sunshine and we had started strategizing about how to handle them!
  • Outreach Programs/Events – Sunshine let us know that these pages do not need to be stressed in terms of recruiting people. They have no problem getting slots filled for events. However, we agreed these pages will hold nice information for potential students and should be kept up, regardless of the spots being filled or not. Dave suggested changing the Feature Area text to tell people that all slots have been filled, and then remove any places linking to the sign up form. We all agreed with this approach.
  • Continuing Education – We briefly talked about this again, and how we would like this to have an area to better highlight events, similar to the Dean’s Colloquium Series  stuff for Public Health. Sunshine said that this would be the primary focus point on our side.
  • Research / the Department of Research – Sunshine requested combining these two pages. At this point having both pages is just a case of repeating content back and forth. All research is done by the Department of Research, so to have them separate is unnecessarily repetitive. We agreed to keep the Research page design, while pivoting to highlight content that exists in the Department of Research right now. Sunshine also mentioned the importance of pointing out the Students Research page, and we agreed that we could include a mention of that in the Student Resources area.
  • Students Page (reworking the Current Students Area) – We discussed the need to revisit the Current Students area of the Students Page, specifically to not focus on outreach so much. Sunshine would like to instead focus more on the student experience (student life). We discussed breaking it out into its own page, but agreed that keeping it all together on the Students page made sense as it’s focused on recruitment. We all agreed this would need to be a more robust talk and we can work on it once we’ve hashed it out better. We are welcome to meeting at a different time (as in, in-between meetings) if you want to work on this.
    • Student Resources (Students Page) – We discussed the confusion between two different areas of student resources – DDS and Dental Hygiene. Sunshine agreed and is going to go through each of the two’s resources to see what can be combined (because it’s shared) and what is actually unique content for each. We will then have the two different programs as two categories of Student Resources.
    • Endodontics – Sunshine said that Endodontics is claiming that the info on our website is incorrect. We went back and forth looking at catalog and our website to compare, and they were all different. We assigned Sunshine to get to the bottom of it. Once she’s able to verify what information is correct, we will be able to move forward getting it into the website. In the meantime, on our end, we are going to think about how this information should be presented as we don’t really have a consistent pattern between the schools. Should we just be linking to catalog? What parts should we include in our site? Etc. Sunshine said this is her priority right now as it’s education information that is possibly incorrect, so this will be her immediate focus.
