What We Discussed

  • Directory Feeds – On Tuesday, we discussed directory feeds and how to use the JSON Feed Tool for more complex directory listings. Also, here is the documentation for working with Directory Feeds on the Website Content Guide.  
  • Outreach Programs/Events
    • Destination Dentistry – Sunshine stopped by my desk on Tuesday and I gave her a quick run through of how this new page type will work. She was overall pleased and was going to populate the page and make it live when she was ready.
    • Dental Academy – Sunshine has gotten some information and is going to start populating the Dental Academy test page I made for her. We discussed that this is merely the foundation for what these pages can do, so we encouraged her to start filling it in and seeing what she feels like she is missing in terms of capability.
  • Continuing Education – We were unsure about how the CE Event process works (being that Sunshine gets information from the CE Website), so Sunshine explained it for us. To summarize: Once CE has the information and posts it on their website, Sunshine takes that information and adds it to the Internal Calendar. She then creates links on the CE page that go to the Internal Calendar event. She sometimes has additional details and things to add to what CE had, which she includes in the Calendar. We would like to work with her to improve this process. Ideally, we will try to pull from the CE feed of events and dynamically pull relevant events on the CE page of our website. We would also link events on our website to the CE website rather than the Internal Calendar. We could also possibly build a unique page to hold an event and allow her to add any additional information she has. We all agreed this sounds like a good direction.
  • Student Resources (Students Page) – Sunshine mentioned that there will be an event mid-March which will require the Students Page to possibly be a little reorganized. This is no problem and once she has any changes she needs established, we will work with her to have them done before the event. In the meantime, we will add a bar or link somewhere to point people to Student Resources. I have been meaning to do that and keep forgetting about it, so that’s my bad. J
  • Widgets – After Sunshine’s visit on Wednesday, we realized Widgets are still hard to understand and we were kind of looking at them backwards when we made them. We are going to work to make Widgets much more intuitive and allow them to change based on their content, rather than asking you to determine what type you want to use before you’ve even entered content. Hopefully this will go well and we can implement it on our other school sites, making other communicators lives easier, too.
