8/28/2020 Meeting

Notes

Home Page

  • Last week we spoke about the alumni ambassador academy being the item for the top of the homepage.  Nicole mentioned Kari Long from the academy to replace the place holder content.  We will need to think of another picture for this story.
  • Because of his current work, there might be some photos of Dr. Martinez to use on the website.  We couldn't find him in the galleries because it was tagged with his name. Nicole will check to see if anyone in the office has access to the photographs.
  • There might be some office related language that might be better suited for the blurb under the homepage tagline.
  • Change the tagline from "Research and Innovation go Hand in Hand" to "Improving Health through Knowledge."
  • Homepage women in science we used another Van Liere photo with better contrast in relation to the other photos on the homepage.  Nicole liked the replacement Van Liere photo.

Research Funding Opportunities

  • This is updated frequently and we are trying to make this easier to manage from a content editor standpoint.  It is currently a long running page.
  • We are exploring methods for allowing people to search or filter the results.  Nicole mentioned that even if we have the headers for NIH or CDC or search by opportunity we can pull all matches and then sort alphabetically.
  • Shawn asked if linking out to a grant website is useful for viewers.  Faculty need RFA number and documentation in order to submit for the grant.  These opportunities are subject to change on a weekly basis.  Since this is an ever changing entity having these links is helpful and we want to keep these.
  • Descriptions are important for viewers to read before they even go further into the grant opportunity.
  • The office highlights ten or so of these in their weekly communications.  This way they have at least seen it once and then they can go to that page to follow up if they are interested.
  • At the moment we are going to move over everything as is for launch and the circle back to figure out a better way to structure it post launch.  We could then build something to help navigation and something to allow for her to turn these of and on in Umbraco determined by their availability.

Graduate Education / Research Page

  • Concierge section un-hide this area and have this link out to the vanity email (hscGrad@hsc.wvu.edu).  Also we will change the title to "How can we help you?"
  • The current Research page has a generic blurb and Nicole will get content for this.  She also mentioned that the student success page is the same way and they are currently working through some content for that with some added diversity verbage.

Events

  • Van Liere is not currently happening and we decided to un-publish it for the time being.
  • We will also swap Van Liere for the afternoon of Science to showcase the Events page.  She is waiting to get some information from Mallory but Dr. Rezai is going to be the next session presenter.
  • Nicole is going to update the listed dates for the Women at Work Podcast and others.

Faculty Resources

  • Not on the new site but on the current site.  Nicole has the question out to Julie, originally addressed to Lisa Salati, if we can move this to SOLE.
  • We have a link to this area but if it doesn't exist Monday we can remove.
  • Nicole feels this is more of an internal thing but faculty would probably miss it if we moved it.

Student Success

Nicole will be writing an introduction for this page.

About Page

  • We linked out to the HSC for the about HSC.
  • We need some introduction text for this page.
  • This page can point out to other areas to help viewers self discover some other stuff about graduate education and other like the news.

General Content

  • Wendy has been helping look through the content.
  • We have been looking for newer photography to update some sections. Research Page feature photo was updated with a Dr. Lockman lab photo.
  • Dan has been working in Umbraco to better structure some content bits.
  • We are looking through some 2017 research photo galleries for the PHD Programs page.  We want a lighter photograph to go with the page.  Its not realistic to get a present photo because of the campus lock down due to COVID-19.
  • Nicole sent Wendy diversity language and Shawn mentioned that this would not be a root level page but would be linked to from various paces on the site, such as the About page.
  • Wendy went through to make sure some things were consistent in the content like the oxford comma and amount of spaces between sentences.

Moving Forward

  • Shawn is going to find more photos for the features on the landing pages.
  • Matt will update the homepage tagline and blurbs
  • Plan to touch base at Noon on Monday and see how everyone feels about website.  If it is good we can launch at 1:00 if not then later that afternoon.  Nicole alerted everyone that this is going to happen Monday.
  • Next week we will be continuing edits and such after launch.  Responding to any things missing and such.
  • We will be retaining the /resoff for a while going forward after launch.  Try to emphasize the new URL in marketing and publications.  This will allow google to index the new URL.
  • Retain the redirect go.wvu.edu/biomedphd which sends to directly to the biomedical sciences programs.
