8/18/2020 Meeting

Notes

Shared Research Resources

  • Shawn mentioned he was looking into what was on the WVU cancer site.
  • Nicole asked if we could move that over with the button type of layout or if this was an option.  Dan mentioned that we could do this and we could bring over whatever they had content-wise to the new website.
  • Nicole mentioned that she could ask Karen martin for any updates to these pages.
  • WVU cancers version of the shared resources pages are what we should use since they are updated more recently.
  • Shawn mentioned that since we have access to the WVU Cancer Umbraco install that he will be bringing the content over and then make tweaks to anything that does not feel right.
  • Nicole asked about incorporating video into pages.

Shared Equipment

  • One of the first discussions we had with Holy was the ability to list the equipment and then link to it from the shared resources pages.  Equipment is the attraction for this area.
  • Nicole mentioned that the equipment is the highlight of what they have for the potential students, faculty, and grant information.
  • We will be able to retain the photos of the equipment from the cancer center website.
  • Karen Martin is a contact for the shared equipment.
  • This site will continue to exist for at least January.

Embedded Videos

  • We have a video on the old site and would like to move the video over.
  • MD/ PhD program and Summer Research Program pages have videos that we would like to move over.  One is student spotlight.

Alumni Spotlight page

We are able to template this page as well.

We do not need an HSC Directory photo option for these because most do not have a photo. Nicole mentioned that if they had a good photo we could add it in but this is more about the content.

Content Progress

A decent amount of what was on the graduate education website has been converted over.

Majority of research minus the shared resources and C8 have been moved over.  Shawn mentioned he will be working on those two things.

Profiles

  • We confirmed that Nicole could go ahead and add information to the alumni ambassador program.
  • Dan mentioned that we had moved over a bunch of other profiles and will shared the pages that we have done already.

New Homepage Content

  • Shawn mentioned we will need to have a discussion on what will go on the homepage for launch. A lot of the events on there are in person, like Van Liere.
  • Nicole mentioned there are some other items we can replace these with like the afternoon of science which will be a monthly event.
  • Undergraduate research workshops will be another possible item.  This will be happening three times in the fall maybe more in the spring.
  • Women in Science hasn't been fleshed out yet but it will focus on all of the seminar series across HSC in the basic sciences research departments who have female presenters, graduate students, etc. We were thinking women in science could be the second homepage story and third would be the afternoon of science (formally evening of science).
  • For photos we can check in the HSC smug mug.  Nicole mentioned the inhalation facility and researchers as a possible image source.
  • Career workshop series will be coming in the fall and will be another event.  This was build as career development or professional development on the current website.
  • Would be an idea to highlight the new ambassador academy since it will be launching on the new website.  Nicole suggested we could mock up some form of imagery for this. This might be an option for the homepage.  This could go at the top of the page.
  • Weekly announcements they highlight their most recent funding.  This is mostly internal but we could do an external blurb with a photo.  They have content for over 30 PI's. We could a couple of those people and present those as cards of people.

Next Meeting

  • We could talk more about the homepage.
  • We will be moving over some the shared resources content.
  • Shawn asked if Nicole would want to add some of the events discussed today to the events section.  Then we could go in see if we have any suggestions and see how these could plug into the homepage.
